The app converts GPS location data from your mobile phone into Ordnance Survey National Grid references, allowing you to accurately pinpoint your position on an Ordnance Survey map. No mobile signal? Not a problem. OS Locate operates independently of mobile signals, relying solely on its built-in GPS system, even in remote areas.

Simply download the app and activate your device's location services (Settings - Privacy - Location Services).

OS Locate offers a range of additional features. The "Share" button enables you to connect with friends and family through messaging and social media, keeping them informed of your whereabouts, progress, and estimated return time. Utilize the convenient digital compass to ensure you're always headed in the right direction. For those eager to expand their knowledge of maps and navigation, the "About" section provides a wealth of information including tips, hints, and a guide to map reading. It also includes simple yet comprehensive explanations of how to utilize eastings and northings.

OS Locate has been updated to provide even greater peace of mind by offering accurate altitude information sourced directly from the GPS signal, guaranteeing its availability at all times.

In addition, the latest version 1.1 of OS Locate automatically detects your location outside of Great Britain and converts Ordnance Survey's Northing and Easting coordinates into internationally recognized Latitude and Longitude readings that can be used anywhere in the world.

Lastly, Ordnance Survey has partnered with Silva Compasses to enhance the virtual compass feature, employing Silva's trademarked design for improved usability.
